this soil is no good, unclean

next time put me in a pot

gut rut

The gut rut is a selfish slut
who aborts the master’s mission
the seed in us, the ageless trust
the gift of intuition.

I’ve been seduced once or twice
in dark, her voice was nice
eager to please, the unmerciful tease
so I sold my kiss for free.

Results are messy and just depressing
any joy - a decimal missed.
For listening to those dismal words
My spirit world dismissed.

So when I’m standing with poor endings
and echoes of my pain
I curse myself and nothing else
for my courage unattained.

Sometimes she sneaks and whispers sweet
I know she’s still the same
so I stand strong, planted deep
for Fear’s her middle name.

believe me when i say -

there are few things better
than spending the day
cleaning and organizing
rooms, closets & drawers
with best friends.

B+ for effort ...

during a recent dinner conversation
i revealed that i wasn't allowed
to watch tv shows or movies with 'magic.'
(ie: smurfs, rainbow bright, ET movie.)

but then it got me to thinking...
what did i watch?

most were normal and 'wholesome'
like the cosby show, i love lucy,
gilligan's island and family ties.

but thrown in the mix were
the twilight zone, all disney movies
& (the ultra weird) - small wonder.

and my two favorite movies as a kid?
the return to oz and night crossing. (!)

swell

use me baby like those shoes on your feet
move me baby like the drum in this beat
kiss me baby like the sun on my skin
come here baby
i'll let you in

to this place i hide so well
make no mistake
my heart will swell in your arms

i'll shake you baby like leaves on a tree
taste good baby like that southern sweet tea
feel good baby like a dream with no end
so come here baby
i'll let you in

to this place i hide so well
make no mistake
my heart will swell in your arms

you you you
know what you're doing
when you say my name
you you you
better stop playing
and make your way over here

to touch me baby like the ocean on sand
make me baby like clay in your hands
and love me good til i understand
come on baby
i'll let you in

to that place i hide so well
make no mistake
my heart will swell in your arms

(first day of) spring poem

confetti trees migrate south
when weakened hearts do sing
hymns of twigs and soggy leaves
asleep on drunken green.

we swim naked in the pool
of echoed rhyme and song
this spinning earth - a marble thrown
where you and i belong.

the power of...

...double stick tape.

today, i was asked to "MacGyver"
a curtain from a tablecloth
without the use of sewing materials.
not only did i feel privileged
to be given such a task

but pleasantly confident in my skills.

with the help of a lil' (i mean tons of)
double stick tape,
a ruler and a lot of patience...
the curtain is now hanging in all its glory.

this got me started on thinking about all the ways
this genius sticky invention has saved my life...
starting with a night out wearing a deep plunge dress.

beautifully blue mix

well, technically it is saturday but truly very late on friday night.
nope - i haven't been out partying (i wish!)
but instead finishing up some designing
and finalizing
a MIXTAPE.

for all my fellow mix tapers who take on this very serious task,

i do not have to explain why it has taken this long to perfect the project. you will understand that it took a good two hours picking just the right songs to fit my theme (of course there's a theme!) and a half dozen listens to ensure the flow is just right.
then comes the packaging - adding another 2 hours, at least.

...but the finished project is truly that one-of-a-kind gift
that is *simply irreplaceable.

(a shout out to becca for all the music
she continues to send my way with each special mix.)

chastity bush

revolutionary fist in the air
in the face of the mistakes of one night stands
and two day lays
and one heart loves
and two lip kisses
that misses the mark
each time

imaginary taps on the wrist
of the girls with the hips
who have seen more than
what is acceptable -
a number creeping up two hands -
damn the man who took a 9
and left bullethole crimes

an extraordinary risk
to sail the sea and walk the street
with picket signs and afro picks
exposed hiplines and floppy disks
of sickness and grime

so we rock a chastity bush
to hide the nooks and crannies
our panties can't
and make bets along the way

in vain

cause it takes more than
the threat of a little hair down there
(sometimes)

the giving tree

if you have ever been to Southern California,
you will notice the LA landscape is saturated by
a certain tree. i'm not talking about the palm,
but instead these tall, pointed evergreens.

after a little research, i discovered they are called
I T A L I A N * C Y P R E S S.

other names include:

mediterranean, tuscan & graveyard cypress..
and my personal favorite, pencil pine.

they became my inspiration for a new logo

for a local landscaping company. it wasn't hard to
convince my Pasadena
clients to go with
this lovely tree to symbolize
their work.

(and might i add - their work is gorgeous!)

scratch...pop...hiss

as i'm driving down venice blvd,

i discover a local radio station playing VINYL all day.
it reminds me of playing with albums as a kid.
my mom had a vast record collection and i would
sit on the floor and organize them by spine color.

i loved the smell of the musty music
and the sounds they made.

...this was a beautiful way to start the day!

as much as i disliked those loud, screeching
tv interruptions...
i always appreciated the colorful stripes.
